Her name's Irene...

...she just a Category 1...

...but she's still a hurricane...

...and she's passing VA...

...RIGHT NOW...

It's a little odd, huh? I mean, we don't get hurricanes often and we nearly never get earthquakes, so to have both in the same week is...weird.
We're not getting much damage where we are, fortunately. We just have rain and wind. But still. It's...strange.

Outer Banks 2011!

I finally have the pictures ready. Since a video is funner, faster, and better to watch, that's what I did--a slideshow. You probably remember Gab did one last year. So I did one this year! And now my first video is published..*sigh*...I feel so proud of myself. :P

(P. S. The pinchy hand motions we make in some of the group pictures are because Bug loves to make "crabby hands"...)

Just to hold you over...

I know, I know. I'm still not back to posting very much. We had a nice big earthquake here in VA today--5.9 to be exact. VA NEVER GETS EARTHQUAKES. So it was quite a shock to everyone. But I thought it was pretty cool, so...:P

Here's just 1 picture to hold you over till I get to posting the more of them. We're missing a SD card...so I've only uploaded about half of them...:

Sunday Afternoon Daybook

Sorry for lack of posts lately...we've been on vacation for the past week. ;) OBX. Pictures soon.
hosted by Jo March
Date...August 20, 2011
Starting time...3:26 PM
Mood...very tired, but happy...plus a ton of hungriness in there...
Outside my window...it's boiling hot. Believe it it or not, it's hotter here then it was at the beach.
I'm thinking...about the past week.
I'm currently reading...Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling. I flew through the first three...first time I've read these, and I'm enjoying them. :D
I'm listening to...Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars...
I'm wearing...shorts, my ROOTED T-shirt from Atlanta...
I'm looking forward to...sleeping tonight. We're all drained. Isn't it funny how coming back from vacation is so tiring...when vacation's supposed to be restful in the first place?
I'm hoping...that I'll be ready when school starts. And that I won't get stressed out too much.
Yesterday, I...was at the beach reading, went parasailing with Gab (yes, I know. It was totally epic.), and took heaps of family pictures on the beach.
I'm hungry for...
The song stuck inside my head is...The Call by Regina Spektor...
I love...no school. Just to think...*shudder*...school's coming up so quickly. Thankfully I'm not starting it this coming week...as some in our family are. (Gab - taking classes at our CC and Annette - going to Catholic school)..
I loathe...messy hair days.
This week, my goal is...to do my history reading and be *excited* for the start of school...
Did I meet last week's goal?...didn't do this last week...
Ending time...3:36 PM

Soul Surfer // movie review

Saturday night our family watched Soul Surfer.
Most of you have probably heard of this movie. It's the story of Bethany Hamilton--the girl whose lost her arm in a shark attack in 2003. Y'all also probably remember when it actually happened. Some documentaries are boring and inauthentic. Not this. This movie was absolutely wonderful.
Bethany Hamilton picked AnnaSophia Robb to play herself in the movie...and Annasophia was great. She was perfect to play the part...
...and in case you didn't guess, this movie is a *total* tear-jerker. You'll be bawling by the end. :P That's what makes it so good.

Also, since this is the Hamilton family we're talking about, they made sure that the Christian elements in the film are right and true and, most of all, there. That was great. Plus Carrie Underwood played the youth leader! Good for her, huh? ;)
Now the cons. Y'all probably know that all the bathing suits worn are bikinis. Yes, I know, but I guess that's what you gotta expect with a surfing movie.
Plus if the sight of blood doesn't settle well with you, then you might want to look away for the shark attack. But really, the attack was very well done. They don't show that much. But there is a bunch of blood, so watch out for that.
All in all, guys, I'd totally suggest this as a movie for a whole family to watch. It's definitely ranked up there with the best movies I've watched. And I'd say it's one of the best documentary film I've ever watched in my life.
Characters: *****(*************)

Plot: 8*****(*************)

Overall: **********************************

You get the point. :D This is a must-watch film, especially for Christians. So rent it at redbox or get it at netflix. You won't be disappointed. :)

Saturday Morning Daybook - August 6

hosted by Jo March
Date...August 6, 2011
Starting time...10:59 AM
Mood...a bit tired, happy, glad we don't have to clean today...
Outside my window...it's kinda cloudy. Been rather dreary around here lately.
I'm thinking...about yesterday...
I'm currently reading...well...I didn't have anything to read so I picked up The School Story by Andrew Clements from the shelf and started that. It's not my grade or anything...I was just bored. :P
I'm listening to...Bug messing with a trash can, Josie singing a song....
I'm wearing...jeans, purple shirt, my swirly earrings. :P
I'm looking forward to...no cleaning today...
I'm hoping...that I'll find a good book to read soon, that I'll be ready when school starts again...
Yesterday, I...was in one of my "cleaning-spazzes" where I felt like transforming the house. And since we had some friends come over later on, Mom wanted the kitchen cleaned and was a little stressed about it...so I volunteered and told her not to worry about it. So while she was gone for a couple hours, Gab, Josie, and I cleaned the major parts of the house. But not just like "cleaned". We totally TRANSFORMED the house. :P I can't settle for just straightening...It's either perfect or it's...not. ;) Later we had some good friends over and watched both Night at the Museums--love those movies!
I'm hungry for...a ton of stuff. French toast, frappuccinos, coffee...
The song stuck inside my head is...Best Thing I Never Had cover by Cimorelli
I love...sweet cards (thank you!). ;)
I loathe...whining. It's awful. Can't stand it.
This week, my goal is...to do some history reading (in preparation for school)...*sigh*...I'm so not ready for it to begin.
Did I meet last week's goal?...didn't do this last week.
Ending time...11:09 AM
